The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) / Department of Community Correction (DCC) Correctional Officer I is responsible for maintaining security, observing behavior, overseeing work, and documenting records of inmates/residents in a correctional/residential facility. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.

Typical Functions Typical Functions
Supervises the security and conduct of inmates/residents in cells, during group meetings, meals, bathing, at recreation, during visitations, while working and other assignments. Maintains perimeter security from tower by watching for escapees and/or disturbances. Maintains security at front gate by logging in visitors to unit. Performs security checks of buildings and grounds, including shakedowns and strip searches of inmates/residents. Maintains a log for work release status, and movement of inmates/residents. Writes incident reports and takes disciplinary action on rule violations of inmates/residents. Escorts inmates/residents to visitation, court, and work assignments. Attends shift briefing to discuss incidents, problems, and security issues. May operate communications equipment by receiving/transmitting messages, logging incoming/outgoing calls, and contacting requested parties. Performs other duties as assigned.
Special Job Dimensions
Frequent shift work, exposure to danger, and emergency on-call duty may be required. Occasional in-state travel is required. May be required to carry and operate a firearm.

• Perform basic warehousing duties including receiving all incoming shipments,
offloading goods, verifying shipping documents match goods received, identify and
document discrepancies.

• Primary responsibilities include unpacking munitions pallets, drums and other
containers with chemical agent by hand, forklifts and overhead cranes to safely
transfer through demilitarization process at the Pine Bluff Chemical Disposal Facility.
• Track accountability of munitions from receiving though each stage of processing
insuring accurate record keeping is in compliance with Army regulations.
• Perform toxic entries into work areas in various Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
categories to support plant operations.
• Physically handle chemical weapons to load into the automated destruction process
• Operate computer controlled conveyor systems and equipment for transfer of
munitions between plant areas.
• Certified Forklift/Fork truck operator.
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly Resources Conservation and Recovery Act
(RCRA) inspections. Perform daily inspection of Hazardous Waste Storage areas and
record data.• Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team. Served as a member of the
(Hazardous Material) HAZMAT or Hot Line Team.
• Operate pumps, valves, controls, and other operating devices as required to ensure
all plant systems are operating properly. Operate material handling equipment, i.e.,
electric vehicles, forklifts, pallet trucks, and cranes.
• Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations; operate
ACAMS (gas chromatographs) to verify munitions, containers, and waste are
agent-free.
• Perform minor maintenance as required and prepare equipment for maintenance,
related to entries, and communicating with the Control Room in the event of
problems or malfunctions.
• Ensure Operations has zero environmental non-compliances
• Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP) clearance.
