Verify test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log and
bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel
Identify the patient by comparing patient information on the requisition to the
patient’s identification band before venipuncture is performed
Obtained blood specimens by performing venipuncture and finger sticks; label,
centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
Display courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and
medical staff
Research test/client information utilizing lab computer system directory of service
Complete assigned duties efficiently and in a timely manner, prioritize STAT,
scheduled, and outpatient orders.
Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department
procedures
Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection
Answer phones, file papers, sort mail, mail letters and packages, use fax machine,
printer, and photocopier, and keep track of inventory of supplies
Maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information
Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and
procedures in compliance with legal regulations
Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
Assist Laboratory Technician when necessary
Skills
Bilingual-English and Spanish
Excellent computer skills using Microsoft office programs
Laboratory Practices & Phlebotomy Procedures
Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations
Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and manage
multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.
