• Verify test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log and

  bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel

• Identify the patient by comparing patient information on the requisition to the

  patient’s identification band before venipuncture is performed

• Obtained blood specimens by performing venipuncture and finger sticks; label,

  centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order

• Display courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and

  medical staff

• Research test/client information utilizing lab computer system directory of service

• Complete assigned duties efficiently and in a timely manner, prioritize STAT,

  scheduled, and outpatient orders.

• Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department

  procedures

• Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection

• Answer phones, file papers, sort mail, mail letters and packages, use fax machine,

  printer, and photocopier, and keep track of inventory of supplies

• Maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information

• Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and

  procedures in compliance with legal regulations

• Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization

• Assist Laboratory Technician when necessary
