Dorm Sponsor and Project Teacher

ScattergoodFriendsSchoolis a small Quaker boarding school in West Branch, IA. ScattergoodFriendsSchool is a diverse, college preparatory educational community of motivated and open-minded learners, both students and staff, who value simplicity, integrity, equality, and non-violence. At Scattergood I spend three nights out of the week in the girl’s dorm. I also spend one weekend a month in the girl’s dorm.  I work closely with the Dean of Students developing a residential life curriculum.  I also teach four classes throughout the year: Journaling and Poetry Slam, Quakerism , Queer Studies, and Meat (a project based learning class exploring the use of Meat in our culture). I also help to cook lunch once a week for the school. I also started an LGBT group for LGBT students and their Allies. The student group is called M.I.G.S. (Meeting for Issues on Gender and Sexuality). This group meets once a month and is a support and educational venue.

Program Assistant

Eleanor Corbett House is a homeless shelter located inGlassboroNJ. At Eleanor Corbett House my main function was a program assistant. Helping residents get acquainted with the rules of the house, acting as a front desk liason, and organizing events for the residents including yoga, spring festivals, and game nights.

[May -August ] Camp Ton-A-Wandah

Program Office Assistant

Camp Ton-A-Wandah has been in existence since . It is an all girls camp that has three week sessions. As the Program Office Assistant I worked with counselor and camper scheduling, announcements, programming, and a variety of other office duties. My work at Ton-A-Wandah was fast paced and very demanding. It was an experience that pushed me to have professionalism and be flexible. I learned a lot from my work at Camp Ton-A-Wandah.

[January - May ] Wellsprings Academy of the Carolinas

Overnight Staff/ Program Coach

WellspringsAcademyof theCarolinasis an eating behavioral modification boarding school. At Wellsprings I worked an overnight shift from late in the evening till early in the morning, doing room checks, handing out medications, and doing laundry. In the mornings I would wake the students and help assist in morning activities (work out routines).

[January - August ] Presidential Classroom

Curriculum Manager

Presidential Classroom is a non profit civic education program for high school students. It brings the students toWashingtonD.C.for one week where they participate in a program that really makes them think. I designed the curriculum, or simulations that the students participated in while they were inWashingtonD.C.I was also in charge of crossfire topics (debates), Presidential Classroom games, and civic action plans (service projects students do after they leave Presidential Classroom). With civic action plans I was in charge of inspiring students to get involved, and then following up with the students on their civic engagement. I also helped to the run logistics of the program. I also answered phones; introduced speakers, dealt with customer service, and other office duties.
