Summary of Qualifications

years experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with a specialization in murine immunological in vivo assays, cell-based assays, ELISAs, and flow cytometry.

Professional Experience

Principal Research Associate

– , Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, The Woodlands, TX

Worked in an AALAS-certified immunology drug development laboratory.  Designed, performed, and analyzed in vivo and in vitro immunological experiments.  Maintained inventory of cell lines, antibodies, and chemicals.  Developed and wrote IACUC-approved SOPs and participated in writing manuscripts for publication.  Procured lab supplies and worked directly with vendors and Purchasing Department to test new products and reduce costs.  Maintained and calibrated laboratory instrumentation.

Flow cytometry experience:

  • Assays included immunophenotyping, Annexin V/-AAD apoptosis assays, cell-cycle analysis, CFSE and BrdU/EdU cell proliferation assays, and bead multiplexing assays.

  • Performed hardware maintenance and troubleshooting on the following instruments: BD FACSCalibur including loader and sort option, FACSCanto, FACSArray, and Luminex.

  • Acquired and analyzed data using CellQuest Pro, FACSDiva, and FlowJo.

  • Trained personnel in instrument usage, fluorochrome selection, template creation, compensation, and analysis.

  • Acted as point of contact for cytometer repairs for both laboratory personnel and outside field service engineers.

In vitro assays:

  • ELISAs (indirect, sandwich, competitive).

  • Mixed lymphocyte reaction and T cell/B cell mitogen-induced proliferation with thymidine incorporation.

  • Created primary cell cultures and propagated mammalian cell lines.

  • Cryopreservation of cell lines.

  • Cell separation/enrichment by density gradients and by antibody-conjugated magnetic beads.

Murine in vivo procedures and assays:

  • Blood collection via retro-orbital sinus and saphenous vein, necropsies, and perfusions.

  • Acute phase response, asthma, arthritis, delayed-type hypersensitivity, diabetes, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and immunization models.

Education

,  Texas State University, San Marcos, TX

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, minor in Chemistry
