Specialized in the Eating Disorder program for several months. Worked with Art Therapy faculty to provide graduate level courses for professional clinicians desiring to add Art Therapy to their clinical skills. Designed coursework for supervision classes with emphasis on group dynamics, theoretical approaches, methods of self expression, media exploration, applications, assessment and planning of interventions, development of identity as Art Therapists and trauma theory. Offered individual and group supervision as needed which included exercises in self discovery and opportunities to explore inter-modal processes and a variety of art media and techniques. Coursework included use of lectures, case studies, literature reviews, student presentations, class discussions, art-making, and reflective journals. Students completed final projects and papers to demonstrate knowledge and experience gained through the coursework. Conducted an annual workshop for CEU’s entitled “Methods of Expression” which focuses on the neurodevelopment of trauma and how to work with challenging populations including clients with eating disorders, self-harming behaviors, and chronic suicidality.

Faculty Research Associate
Supervised a staff of seven-to-ten research associates participating in the data collection for the Dads for Life program which explored the benefits of divorced fathers that actively participate in the lives of their children. Trained staff for each cohort, conducted subject interviews, and participated in the organization of materials and office staffing for the program. Program for Prevention Research is NIMH funded and supports multiple research projects simultaneously. Assisted research psychologists with projects including preparing materials for various studies, creating posters for APA Conference sessions, and providing office and clerical support as needed.

Internship
Fulfilled a summer internship at this research oriented facility with several clinicians who specialize in painting, drawing, modelage (clay), collage, expressive writing and movement. Observed and learned a variety of therapeutic styles from a European perspective and participated in discussion groups with fellow interns from a variety of European and African cultures. Internship culminated in an invitation to speak at the World Psychiatric Association Congress in , which was successfully fulfilled.

Practicum
Participated in a wilderness outdoor training by working with counselors in a unique environmental rehabilitation for adolescents. Met weekly to shadow clinicians for individual sessions, participated in family trainings, orientation sessions, and telephone sessions with parents. This opportunity provided an experience to think differently about the clinical setting and how art can be utilized in an eco-system rather than an art studio. Clients created their own pottery from earthen banks of clay which were fired in coals, carved their own eating utensils, created sweat lodges from tarps, and demonstrated many other creative outlets.
