The Assistant System Operator position is an intermediate-level position within The Integrated Operations, Planning and Support Services Group. This position assists System Operators and Senior System Operators in the monitoring and operating of a large Conveyance and Distribution System which consists of pipelines, canals, reservoirs, valves, pressure control structures, hydroelectric plants, along with other components typically associated with large water systems.
Within this position, the Assistant System Operator is given direct detailed instructions when performing tasks that are required when operating a Conveyance and Distribution System using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition or SCADA for remote monitoring and operations. This position assists in reaching short- and long-term tasks in optimizing system operations while achieving set goals that are put in place by management.

Schedule: 7 – 7 rotating shift or a 12.5-hour day and/or night shift on a rotational basis. Please note, at times the District may change employees on a 12.5-hour shift schedule to a 4-10 schedule (four consecutive 10 – hour day shifts). Working on holidays may also be required. Please note, at times the District may change an employee’s shift schedule based on business needs.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate (GED) and two years’ experience in a water treatment plant or distribution system.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position will be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing, and registrations:
Certificate(s): A State of California D2 Water Distribution Operator Certification OR A State of California T2 Water Treatment Operator Certification
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
