The Senior Chemist works on the Quality Assurance (QA) Team and serves as a technical specialist to support the Quality Assurance Program and Metropolitan's water quality laboratory accreditation related to the microbiology and chemistry laboratory functions.
In this role you will demonstrate your communication and presentation skills. In this position, the Senior Chemist will work closely with the Quality Assurance Officer, chemists, limnologists, microbiologists, and various team managers to support and advise on analytical methods, complex instrumentation and all aspects of quality assurance and quality control. The Senior Chemist supports the team manager in completing the quality management system updates and reports to top management.
This position requires knowledge of chemistry and microbiology analytical methods and the associated QA requirements. The Senior Chemist will have the required knowledge of the current and upcoming regulatory requirements and takes the lead in creating and revising quality assurance documents such as the Quality Manual, standard operating procedures and laboratory forms. The person in this position conducts internal audits covering technical and management system areas of the laboratory to ensure compliance with quality assurance requirements and protocols established by the state of California, Federal drinking water regulations, and requirements of the 2016 TNI laboratory standards.
Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday /Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.
Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.
This position may require coming in more than 2 days per week based on business needs.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and six years of relevant experience; OR a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience.
A degree (Bachelors or Masters) in a related field is defined as: Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences or related scientific field/discipline.
Relevant Experience is defined as: experience in a water quality laboratory quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) role utilizing the principles and practices of water chemistry and/or microbiology while following established environmental laboratory standards; AND experience using laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
