Install, maintain, and repair automated machinery and computer-controlled mechanical systems
Day-to-Day Role:
- Follow federal, state, local, and company regulations and policies regarding safety and a safe working environment.
- Follow and commit to safety and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- Support automation projects to install, maintain, repair, test, and troubleshoot complex automated equipment
- Lead process improvement initiatives and/or cross functional team projects
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and controls problems including non-routine issues
- Use Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) including basic and ladder logic to read/write basic wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints to diagnosis problems
- Compile documents, analyze test data, and perform calculations to determine root cause of problems and the corrective action to take
- Read, understand, interpret, draw, and update mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical schematics and drawings
- Plan equipment utilities layout and install power supply, pneumatic, and data services
- Serve as a technical resource for less experienced technicians and maintenance staff
- Train other technicians
- Use SAP for Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Work Order Process
Core Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal Automation Specialist candidate must possess all of the following:
- Requires one of the following:
- Associate’s degree with an emphasis in automation or related area and three (3) years of automated manufacturing equipment installation and maintenance experience, OR
- High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of equipment installation and maintenance experience with preferred automated manufacturing experience.
- Ability to read, write, interpret, and draw mechanical and electrical diagrams, schematics and blueprints.
- Thorough understanding of the NFPA 70 Electrical Code
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic systems
- Advanced knowledge of industrial controls and instrumentation
- Advanced mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot complex problems
- Ability to make changes to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using advanced ladder logic, read/write wiring diagrams, schematics and blueprints
- Good verbal and written English language skills necessary to communicate intricate job-related information
- Math skills to include decimals, fractions, algebra, and geometry
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn various statistical and quality methodologies including but not limited to Statistical Process Control (SPC), Statistical Quality Control (SQC), 5S, 8D, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis, Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R), and Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Proficiency with Multi-meter, scope, basic hand tools, and portable power tools
- Ability to obtain and maintain powered industrial truck (PIT) license
