This position is responsible for acting as a primary health advisor to the community, providing the full range of needs assessment, patient care planning, and performance of routine and emergency procedures for patients, including handling of life-threatening complications for mother and infant. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.

Responsibilities
Assesses the physical condition of pregnant patients who present to OBES with acute and emergent obstetric needs, including normal labor, rupture of membranes, preterm labor, hypertension, fetal distress, and other potentially life-threatening conditions.
Recognizes deviations from normal pregnancy and formulates a medical plan based on the patient's condition.
Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the obstetric patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
Consults with physician(s) as needed regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
Collaborates and makes referrals to consulting medical services to provide treatment for patients in OBES.
Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
Demonstrates ability to perform clinical privileges as defined on University of Utah Health Hospital and Clinics' Certified Nurse Midwife clinical privileges application.

Qualifications
Qualifications Required
Current licensure to practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife in the State of Utah.
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association, or obtain within one month of hire, as determined by credentialing.
Qualifications (Preferred)
Preferred
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
National certification as a Nurse Midwife.
